In 2021, Sharon Hewitt’s bill (SB221) regulated the selection of our future voting machines and was signed into law as ACT 480. (link)
In 2024, House Bill 856 (link) is on the calendar for the current session. It was a straightforward bill:
Abstract: Provides additional requirements for maintenance of voting systems.
However, in a last-minute change to the bill and after committee hearings for public input had taken place in both the House and the Senate, an amendment was added on the floor of the Senate on May 23 with no public input. This amendment (link to Sen. Reese #3776) could substantially change the essence of ACT 480.
